Ear Impressions

Otoblock placement

Image
Before an ear impression can be taken, your ear must be clear of debris (wax). A cotton or foam block is placed into the ear canal to protect your eardrum when the ear canal is filled with impression material.

Once the oto-block is in place, your audiologist will fill your ear canal and outer ear with a silicone impression material to make a mold of the shape of your ear canal and outer ear.

Setting

Once your ear is full of the impression material, it will take 3-5 minutes to set. Once set, your audiologist will remove it to reveal an exact impression of your ear for use in making your custom ear mold.

Ear impressions can be used to make any custom ear product from musician’s monitors, to hearing protection, to earmolds for hearing aids. They can be clear in color to blend in with your skin, or bright and colorful for a splash of fun! Swirl colors together or add glitter, or both!
